Chicago-based illustrator, Samantha DeCarlo, focuses on the art of storytelling. With an interest in portraiture, she exposes what’s more than skin-deep. Despite the common association between bones and death, her figures live vigorously amongst nature as birds fly above and flowers bloom below.

Her media of choice is ballpoint pen and watercolor. After graduating from the American Academy of Art in 2012, she began working as an on-site illustrator for Sharpie and Prismacolor Markers, drawing on objects photographed for their ad campaigns. She currently freelances and instructs painting at an art studio in LaGrange, IL.
