BROKE AS A JOKE (in the month of August)
Ugh. I need money.

Someone, please! Heed my call! I will work for you!

I have applied at a few places around Elmhurst thinking that this is a good time since all the college students going back to school! But no. No one is calling me back, no one has work for me.

I need to start making money off my art soon, otherwise I fear I'll be stuck applying for minimum wage jobs for the rest of my sad existence.

STOP! I NEED TO GET A GRIP!

If only Sharpie was hiring people like me: students with no business knowledge or marketing skills (yet...I have marketing this semester). I bet Sharpie would be a super cool place to work. Well, I'll figure it out when I graduate and can dedicate myself to them. I doubt they want an INKtern who is still in school.
SOCIAL MEDIA IS RUNNING MY LIFE (RUNning, not Ruining)
Yes. It is.

Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, this website......it's madness. I can barely keep all my stuff straight. I probably check my google analytics account every 2 hours just to see how many people are viewing my work and what keeps them viewing longer (or what deters them).

I want to talk about something other than promoting my work. I want to just talk. It's true I have a life outside of art. Although, it's not as interesting...

So, let's begin! I have a boyfriend who I've been dating for roughly 4 years. It's fairly serious, but definitely no wedding bells for another couple of years. I really don't want to be married 'till I am in my late 20s. I am an only child of two awesome parents. I commute to school every morning (7:20 am) so living at home must be at least bearable. Luckily for me, it's great.

I love to shop! Forever 21 is nice because it's cheap and whatnot, but I do love to treat myself every now and then with a more expensive pair of shoes or purse. What can I say, I'm a girl!

One thing I absolutely detest is manual labor. I hate having to touch dirty things in the garage, or moving heavy furniture around my house. My muscles are quite weak. But that is probably the only thing I will throw a hissy-fit about.

That seems to be enough about me. Don't want to bore you.
Month of June 2010
Though I do not use this site as a "blog" naturally, I do enjoy posting little things going on that really excite me. As you can tell, nothing has excited me recently.

HOWEVER, this month has been hoppin' in regards to selling work and commissions. And by hoppin', I mean I've been contacted by three people. But, hey! Three is more than none.

I have been thinking about doing more to get my name floating around. Find more fundraisers to donate to, have more shows locally, and get business cards circulating. ASAP! Those will be good to start off with I think.

For those who are observant, I've raised my prices on all my inks and a few other paintings. My art director at Maddock Douglas, an Innovation Agency, laughed at the prices I had earlier, saying they were far too cheap. However, even after I re-priced them, he STILL thought they were too inexpensive. I cannot win. I just can't see myself pricing my work above $100 (or $1000 as he suggested). I would rather have my work out on people's walls than nowhere at all because no one can afford them. What's the point of making art if it isn't out for the public to see?

I just want to be fair.
Month of October
Currently, at the Karen Solem Studio, I am showing my headless lady, The Mannequin. The Gallery opening was October 2, but few non-artists showed. Perhaps it was due to the weather, for the rain was unyielding, or maybe no one wants to buy so they do not bother to look anymore.
I hope the latter is not the case. Art has such powerful influence over mood, and a piece can really "speak" to you if you let it.

October 14, the second wednesday of the month, Olympic Chiropractor is hosting a breast cancer fundraiser. I have been asked to donate a piece, and to also sell my work at a table. Various companies participate selling perfume to jewelry, and even vitamins and a quick massage. It is a great honor to be among these established names, and I am very excited to be there.
